What is U-INSPIRE Nepal

U-Inspire is a youth and young professionals (Y&YP)platform in Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation (SETI) to accelerate the implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in-line with the Sendai Framework to support DRR policy and action at local, national and international level. It is a regional alliance of of Y&YP working in SETI for DRR and climate change in different countries of Asia and the Pacific region. It’s initial concept and successful practice started from Indonesia from 2018, which is now being followed by other countries in the region, with the national chapters in each country. The functional working mechanism is independent and creative utilizing the synergy of youth ideas and activities that are nurtured under the patronship of UNESCO and supported other national organizations. It is a national, youth-led, multi-disciplinary approach to dealing with the challenges brought by natural disasters, mitigating their impacts, and improving related policy-making mechanisms.

  • Facilitating young students/scientists in DRR for data collection, research design and scientific publications
  • Organize online meetings for cross-institutional collaborations
  • Collection and documentation of stories of re-construction after the 2015 Gorkha earthquake (ongoing)

  • Joint research on the simulation of a large landslide in Northern Pakistan is ongoing with UINSPIRE Pakistan
  • Other planned future activities: DRR mapping competition; Factsheets; Disaster rapid response data collection; and International conference on youths and young professionals in SETI for DRR
